It combines my fascination with art, clay, dirt, living things (like moss, air plants, and small succulents – all fairly hard to kill), and dollhouses. I want to create it all from scratch, even though I have visions of ending up featured on Pinterest Fails.
My fascination with miniatures began with Queen Mary’s Doll House. Such “inspiration” can hold us back; nothing I could create would hold a candle to what are surely teeny tiny wax candles with real wicks created by the esteemed purveyors of elegant candlesticks to the Queen, herself. I still regret never finishing the dollhouse I started building for Katie, years ago, but it wasn’t finished when we moved to Texas, and probably would not have survived the move. I did learn a little bit about how to lay down a wooden floor and put shingles on a roof. Next up – if I do this – electrical wiring! Let there be light.
Maybe I can commission the artist, Todd Kruse, to create a work of art to grace the fairy house’s wall.
My mom used to read this poem to me when I was little:
There Are Fairies at the Bottom of Our Garden
THERE are fairies at the bottom of our garden!
It’s not so very, very far away;
You pass the gardner’s shed and you just keep straight ahead —
I do so hope they’ve really come to stay.
There’s a little wood, with moss in it and beetles,
And a little stream that quietly runs through;
You wouldn’t think they’d dare to come merrymaking there–
Well, they do.
There are fairies at the bottom of our garden!
They often have a dance on summer nights;
The butterflies and bees make a lovely little breeze,
And the rabbits stand about and hold the lights.
Did you know that they could sit upon the moonbeams
And pick a little star to make a fan,
And dance away up there in the middle of the air?
Well, they can.
There are fairies at the bottom of our garden!
You cannot think how beautiful they are;
They all stand up and sing when the Fairy Queen and King
Come gently floating down upon their car.
The King is very proud and very handsome;
The Queen–now you can quess who that could be
(She’s a little girl all day, but at night she steals away)?
Well — it’s Me!

Cute poem and I love the pictures you’ve added of the fairy houses.

Thanks, Rachel!
Sweet. I had never read the whole poem before.
I was quite pleased to find it online!

Oh, that was fun! I thought, at first, it was going to be some straightlaced operatic version – how delightful that it’s not!

Oh, wait!! She was MRS MEERS?! That’s doubly delightful. Thoroughly Modern Millie is one of my favorite movies!

Those knocked-over flower pot fairy statues you posted are unbelievably adorable. I love the look of statues in gardens, since they remind me of my study abroad in England while walking through those gardens. Thanks for posting such cute inspirations for my garden this summer. I will have to look for similar statues.
Your link has some cute little birdhouses, too, I see. More fun ideas…
Of course, last time I tried being nice to the birds in my neighborhood, sapsuckers tries to kill my favorite tree. 🙁

Oh, no! That’s terrible! I have a bunch of sparrows in my yard, and they eat my dog’s foot outside. As cute as birds are, they can be annoying at times.
I’m sure your dog is even more annoyed, Audrey!
I’m always looking for inspiration. Unfortunately, I have a black thumb and I think the fairies are going to get mad at me…

Oh Holly, those are some beautiful garden statues that you have right there. You know, I myself have been trying to find some unique solar garden statues for my wife to put around the yard. It’s something that would be neat for her to do since she enjoys collecting them.
These little fairy gardens are so cute! I want to get some kind of statues to make my garden more whimsical. I think these are just the kind of thing I should get!
They are cute, aren’t they? Doesn’t your gift shop carry some, Veronika? 😛

If “ADA Gift Shop” is yours, say so. If you’re not a spammer, I’m happy to help you succeed with the occasional link dropped in an actual conversation here. But if that’s not what you’re about, take it somewhere else, okay?

I love the little fairy houses and gardens made out of pots! The broken pot with the small plants, stairs, and castle look super cute. I’d love to have little decorations and statues like that. Also, what exactly is the fairy light mushroom that you included made of? Thanks!
You might have to go to http://colleenhouck.com/ and ask her. I found the pin on Pinterest and loved it, but it may be fine art – not a fairy garden decoration.
