Bring It, Brian!
by Holly Jahangiri on Feb 22nd, 2010
I posted this almost a year ago (April 23, 2009): I finally found the perfect Dutch oven recipe for tomorrow night's rematch. My competition's tough - and determined - and I know he's been plotting and scheming for weeks, now, disappointed that we couldn't go head to head at last month's camp-out. Click the picture. Go on...you know you want to. I'll be winging it. Brian has, no doubt, been testing, refining, tasting, and tweaki...Read More » Tags

Food Kids Love: Raggedy Ann & Andy Lunch
by Holly Jahangiri on Feb 8th, 2010
My mom used to make these "Raggedy Ann and Andy" lunches for me every year on my birthday. They were a special treat. When my daughter, Katie, was born, I learned how to make them for her. My daughter loved them, too. My son...well, let's just say he thinks they're fun, but still thinks they're way too healthy, with all the fruits and veggies. Here's hoping your kids enjoy these fun, edible "Raggedy Ann and Andy" lunches. ...Read More » Tags

Zucchini Bread: A Tastier Way to Eat Your Veggies
by Holly Jahangiri on Feb 4th, 2010
I am updating the posting date on this - not age-regressing my son! Dennis Edell and I were wondering if that would be an effective way of bringing older, lesser-known posts back to the forefront, and whether they would be picked up by the nightly RSS feed, or roundly ignored all over again. So I hand-picked this one, because it's a fantastic recipe, a great way to encourage kids to eat more veggies, and a fun video (you parents might want...Read More » Tags

Double-check Those Nutrition “Facts”!
by Holly Jahangiri on Jan 10th, 2010
Over the holidays, I was given a very nice gift: a box of pralines from Goode Co. I read the nutrition info, and was pleasantly surprised: 1 serving = 45g; servings per individually wrapped praline = 1; calories per serving = 190. My husband said, “Weigh that.” I raised an eyebrow at him, but did it anyway. Holy cats! That ONE praline was 90g – almost TWO servings! Get yourself a good food scale. Use it. Don’t be too trusting. I gave ...Read More » Tags

Crazy Candymaking!
by Holly Jahangiri on Dec 27th, 2009
I spent a couple of hours this evening making all the treats I didn't have time to make before Christmas. Would you believe I made all of these in about two hours - and that includes the time I spent making spaghetti, sauce, and salad!? These recipes are amazingly easy, but taste like you slaved for hours in the kitchen. (more...)...Read More » Tags

Monday News & Views
by Holly Jahangiri on Nov 30th, 2009
Giving Thanks for What Is, and for What Isn?t I essentially cooked not just one, but two Thanksgiving dinners for only four people (this really cuts down on the amount of grocery shopping I?ll need to do between now and Christmas). My daughter was celebrating her first vegetarian Thanksgiving, and had asked if I would roast her a Tofurkey. I can?t eat soy, and figured my son wouldn?t eat soy (this is the kid who likes balut and refuses to eat ve...Read More » Tags
