Write a new, original short story on your own blog using whatever is in your Spam or Trash folders for inspiration. (For an example, see Spammerview, but make yours different!) If you have nothing in your own Spam bucket, borrow something from Spomment of the Day.
Post a link to your entry in the comments below. I will pick the one I like best and, provided the winner doesn’t mind sharing his or her email address with me, will send the author a $10 Amazon.com gift card (via email).
Deadline: 11:59 PM on Saturday, January 10, 2014.
Winners will be announced on Sunday.
Holly Jahangiri is the author of Trockle, illustrated by Jordan Vinyard; A Puppy, Not a Guppy, illustrated by Ryan Shaw; and the newest release: A New Leaf for Lyle, illustrated by Carrie Salazar.
She draws inspiration from her family, from her own childhood adventures (some of which only happened in her overactive imagination), and from readers both young and young-at-heart. She lives in Houston, Texas, with her husband, J.J., whose love and encouragement make writing books twice the fun.

such a good idea – I can only imagine where such a story would take me. great plot point in a long novel, too.

Could be! Especially if you drag in the 419 scammers. International intrigue at its…second best. 😉

That’s a great idea! I’d love to see what your students come up with. Are you familiar with the NaNoWriMo Young Authors Program? I recommend that for homeschoolers, as well.

Don’t forget to come back here and leave a link! $10 isn’t a huge prize, but it could be a book or two or any of 10,000 other things on Amazon!

It’s awesome – I loved it! Here I was, worried no one would enter such a quick little contest! Now the competition’s heating up…and still one day to go!

Rummuser, you do realize your comment would look like spam to anyone who doesn’t know you. Seriously – one URL and a post titled “Escort!”? I don’t know if you didn’t think that through…or you PLANNED it that way. 😀
