The Write Tribe Festival Of Words Is Back #WTFOW, and I will be joining in the fun. The Write Tribe is a merry band of bloggers – if you read blogs, I’m sure you’re familiar with some of them – and they have accepted me into the “tribe” and made me feel like part of the family. Technically, I joined months ago (years ago?) but only recently pushed myself off the wall and started to get to know the rest of the members. Shh, maybe they’ve not yet figured out, either, what an introvert I am, at heart – or maybe they have, and this is why they’ve not shoved me out of my comfort zone and demanded that I participate. I think they learned during the recent #teawithwritetribe Instagram contest that I am a free-spirited, coffee-drinking, chocolate-loving, reading/writing rebel who will #resist any orders to conform. I suspect we have much in common, there.
I wonder if they realize that hashtag, #WTFOW, could be read aloud as something I say when I stub my toe in the dark…
Anyway, the Festival of Words is a 7-day blogging challenge starting this coming Saturday (yeah, I hear you back there, moaning “Oh, God, not again…”) and I think I’ve got 7 days in me. I’ll admit that it encourages me to hear others express doubts about their ability to keep up – inspires me to prove that we can all do this, surely! We’ll egg each other on and it’s bound to be a blast.
In the larger scheme of things, blogging is neither as fun nor as effective without a “tribe” or two. That is, we all need readers, colleagues, wielders of cattle prods, sharers, and carers, lest we sink into the morass of words and scribble, in offline diaries, things that sound terribly morbid and maudlin and vaguely ridiculous, like, “Nobody loves me, everybody hates me, I’m going out to the garden to eat worms…”
Save me. There’s slim pickin’s in my garden, hot and sunny as its been, lately. All the tasty earthworms are now dried, desiccated worm-raisins. You can’t eat worm-raisins unless they’re pickled in the tears of a thousand rejections. I’m fresh out – having written nothing submission- and rejection-worthy in a while.

This one was hilarious Holly! I haven’t written a word not given the prompts a thought. I’m wondering what I was thinking when I decided to jump in and sign up. But then what the heck, what is life without a few challenges thrown in.

Thanks! The hashtag might take on a similar meaning by Wednesday, when we’re all questioning our wisdom in tackling this. But I figure as long as no one’s threatening to waterboard us if we don’t succeed, there’s little harm in going for it with gusto – right? 🙂
I wouldn’t have put you down as an introvert, Holly! I’m looking forward to the Festival of Words, even though I’m currently a bit stumped for words! I’ll sit down tomorrow and try to plan it all out.
One of the biggest misconceptions about us introverts is that we’re shy. Most of us aren’t. We’re not energized by the crowd – parties and planned group activities suck the life out of us, even if we enjoy them (sometimes). We’re energized by solitude and things like curling up with a good book. We like people fine; we prefer intense conversations to lots of small talk, and we prefer them one on one or in small groups. After a large party or being in a crowd, we need a long nap. 🙂
Honestly, some of the prompts have me totally stumped for words, too. I view that as a challenge, though. Play with it. Make it your own. Don’t force your post to conform; make the prompt conform to your post. 🙂
I am both introverted and shy, which is why I thrive online. But I didn’t have the “bandwidth” (a saying of my sister in law, and it’s a good one) to participate in the festival. I’ll try to read some of your posts, Holly, because they will be well worth your time. I’m hoping I’m a part of “your tribe”. And no, I wouldn’t tell you if I was a spammer. Trust me that I’m not?

Ha Ha WTFOW is an expletive I often use too. Especially since I have to keep my mouth clean when my little grandsons are around.. Looking forward to happy tales from you.
